Get the Dress

There was much excited speculation over what The Dress would look like, with many big designers getting in on the fun and creating their perfect princess gown. Ramona Keveza almost got it perfect when she created this romantic A-line gown with a lace illusion neckline and sleeves decorated with delicate Chantilly lace.

Another look-alike is the Andrea gown, by Priscilla of Boston. This silk organza ball gown has embellished lace details on the skirt, much like Kate’s. The fully beaded lace jacket with scalloped edges adds royal charm.

Another Priscilla of Boston gown (this is Style 4615) is equally beautiful, with a twist. This A-line gown with hand-appliqued crystal-encrusted Alencon Lace sleeves also features a a lovely silver sash for added dimension.

Get the Tiara

Of course, a princess has to wear a tiara! If you want a royal headpiece too, but don’t have access to the Queen’s extensive collection of tiaras (Kate chose a  1936 Cartier “halo” tiara), check out these lovely options. Kate’s veil is made of layers of soft, ivory silk tulle with a trim of hand-embroidered flowers, which were embroidered by the Royal School of Needlework, where the lace appliqué for the bodice and skirt were hand-made as well.

Get the Jewels

The lovely drop earrings Kate wore were commissioned by her parents, Carole and Michael Middleton, as a wedding present.  London Jeweler Robinson Pelham created the diamond oak leaf and acorn earrings for the bride – a motif which echoes the coat of arms of the Middleton family.

Brides.com showcases a similar style from their most recent Brides Local Magazines cover shoot. They’re by the L.A.-based designer Simon G., who always finds beautiful, interesting ways to showcase diamonds. Like Kate’s earrings, these delicate danglers would perfectly complement any regal wedding gown.

My favorite items to browse at the moment are hairpieces. My sister is getting married soon, and her dress is going to be high cut with a big flower over one shoulder, so a necklace is out… but I’m searching headbands and combs just for the fun of it! Here are some of my favorites!!

Headbands

There’s something about this fern headband that makes me want to revisit my wedding hairstyle. It comes in gold or silver, but I absolutely LOVE it in gold! It also converts to a choker necklace.

This 3-D Alvina Headband is simply showstopping! I want it!

This Breena Headband is a bit more delicate, but equally gorgeous. I Love the filigree accents, and remember that the crystals are available in any color!

Bracelets & Cuffs

Another great accessory that allows you go all-out (especially if you will have a busy dress or hairstyle) is a bracelet or cuff.  Below, the Breena Bracelet (yes, matches that Breena Headband I adore), the Edina Bracelet (which is meant to be work tightly like a watch) and the Alvina Bracelet, (silver or gold leaf):

Veils

Sarah Black, owner of high-end bridal salon Belle Couture Bridal, let’s us know what’s hot when it comes to the 2009 wedding fashion scene.

Wedding gown: If you want to go the unconventional route, don’t try a red dress this season. You’ll be sadly out of style. “Leave the bold colors for the bridesmaid dresses, not the wedding gown,” says Black. Instead, get creative with unconventional fabrics. “Think cotton lace and embroidered tulle, for example.”

Headpieces: Do you want to wear a tiara? Too bad. If you want to be style savvy, you’re better off spouting feathers!  “Feathers are a great accessory for a wedding,” says Black. “They add some flair to a gown or as a hair accessory without being overstated.”

Bridesmaids: Maybe you were thinking of champagne or a light silver for your bridesmaids… Oh no, not in 2009! When it comes to bridesmaid dresses, it’s all about being bold. According to Black, striking colors such as canary yellow, cobalt blue and Kelly green will be popular to create a dramatic effect.

And one more piece of advice:

“Brides shouldn’t be afraid to have some fun with color and accessories in the coming year,” says Black, whose bridal salon just outside historic Charleston, S.C., features nationally-renowned wedding gown designers. “While versions of white are always best for the wedding gown, selecting a bold accent color for the wedding party can add a real spark to those wedding photos.”
