Nothing draws attention to your wedding cake like an awesome cake topper, and it’s a great way to make a statement about yourselves. Take a look at these adorable, amusing, and audacious cake toppers, you’ll never think about wedding cakes the same way again!

Kitty Cake Topper by Helyn

If you have seen any great toppers, we’d love to hear about them! Please let us know in the comment section below.

Is the bride expecting? How hilarious would it be to break the news to family and friends with this delicious cake topper? (All Wedding AZ)

The next 4 toppers are from Offbeat Bride (Toppers that won’t make you cringe!) Well, some might cringe at the bride jumping the groom in public, but the little love-fishies and dragons are just sweet as can be!

Offbeat Bride also had the brilliant idea of using salt-and-pepper shakers as cake toppers… aside from being totally adorable, they’re great because you can reuse them on a daily basis!

If you're planning a wedding, wouldn't you rather see your guest comfortably chatting away, rather than stuck in awkward chit chat? Here are some ideas to get you fired up! Your guests will love them!

Let’s just say a coworker is getting married. After the ceremony, you pick up your place card and find the table, take a seat and look at the other wedding guests sitting around you. If you’re lucky, you’ve been seated with people you know, maybe even a friend or two. But it so happens that this time you don’t know the person sitting next to you, so you politely introduce yourself, ask them how they know the bride and groom, and when conversation runs out you turn delicately to your salad. Maybe you smile and nod over the floating calla lilly arrangement to the people sitting across from you…

Guests laughing: Photo from Sweet Caroline Photos

But wouldn’t it be nice to really hit it off with this table-full of strangers, to get to know them a bit better and enjoy their company, and the wedding, that much more? That’s where the “wedding ice breaker” comes into play! If you’re planning a wedding, wouldn’t you rather see your guest comfortably chatting away, rather than stuck in awkward chit chat?

Here are some ideas to get you fired up! Your guests will love them!

Guess who!

Although this one is time consuming to prepare, it’s great fun (especially if you’re from California, like I am)! Put pictures of celebrities that look like the guest on their place card. You can turn it into a game like the popular kids game of the same name. However you play it, it’s sure to get the guests around the table talking, like it did at the wedding Nicky, from Cheap Wedding Success, attended. Her celeb look-a-like was Natalie Portman. How complementary!

Fun Facts

There are a few ways you can play this game. Here are some options, but you can work it any way you’d like to!

Write an interesting fact about each person on their neighbor’s place card. For example, “Marcy is a brilliant mathematician who enjoys Salsa dancing on the weekends.” With these snippets of information, you’ll definitely provide enough material to strike up a conversation between your guests.

Write 3 facts about each guest on their placecard. 2 are truth and 1 is not. The other guests at the table have to guess which fact is NOT true. (If you don’t have enough interesting facts about each guest, you could ask them to provide a couple on the RSVP.)

Provide a list of questions starting with, “Have you ever…” and have the guests go around the table asking each other these questions.

Cootie catchers (paper fortune tellers) are cute ways to ask questions and glean interesting facts from each guest.

Penny for Your Thoughts

Get cute little favor boxes like the one below and put a few coins inside (2000 Dollar Wedding suggests looking in collectors’ shops and online for vintage coins). Each guest opens his or her favor box, then shares with the table an important event that corresponds to the year on each coin (e.g., “In 1996, I was named best-dressed in high school”).

photo via Martha Stewart Wedding

Jelly Belly Game

Games centering around food are always a blast! This game was invented by I Love Weddings and is sure to be a hit with your guests! Jelly Belly jelly beans come in a variety of delicious and interesting flavors, such as root beer, orange sherbet, pina colada, buttered popcorn, etc. Each table gets a number of different flavored beans, and the guests need to taste each one to figure out what the flavor is. The table that gets the most flavors right wins!

Fortune Fish

Are you independent? Are you fickle? Are you in love? See what the Fortune Telling Fish has to say about you! Little winter bride thought the fortune fish would be the perfect creative ice breaker to spark conversation. “And guess what?” she says, “It worked! Everyone LOVED it! it was hilarious.”

The more I blog about weddings, the more I find things that make me sigh and think, "I wish I'd done something like this at my wedding!" Well here's one of those ideas...

The more I blog about weddings, the more I find things that make me sigh and think, “I wish I’d done something like this at my wedding!” Well here’s one of those ideas… I was browsing {ritzy bee blog} and found this awesome wedding invitation RSVP card, featuring the droll “bell controversy.” I LOVE the idea of letting your individuality and sense of humor shine through the typically formal (ie: dull) wording of wedding invitations and RSVP cards.

And why not? In addition to the joy of receiving your invite, you add an element of surprise and an unexpected laugh. Humorous wedding invitations are also a good way to lighten up the sometimes stressful, solemn mood associated with weddings and getting married, particularly for those guests who dread putting on a suit and tie. Your guests will appreciate the lighthearted feeling and look forward to an event that’s fun (as well as meaningful).

While artwork and caricatures are one way to create humorous invitations, I like the idea of a traditional, formal looking invitation with nontraditional wording. The incongruousness of combining the two is perfect for those with a sophisticated type of dry humor.

All Experts.com has some examples that are just great. For example, the couple who’s finally decided to get married after scorning the idea of marriage, can write:

Susan “Wedding Schmedding” Smith
and
David “They’ll Never Take Me Alive” Jones
gleefully invite you to witness
the eating of their words!

Even if you have a traditionally worded invitation, you can insert a glimmer of unexpected humor by asking guests to RSVP to the e-mail address: goodbyehappiness@yahoo.com.

Great Quotes

Instead of a sentimental line of stale poetry, stun your guests with something a bit different, like one of these not-so-famous quotes on weddings and married life. The funniest part is sure to be the people who just don’t get it. Come on, picture it…

“I really don’t see what is so romantic about proposing. One may be accepted – one usually is, I believe – and then the excitement is ended. The very essence of romance is uncertainty.” (Oscar Wilde)

“Marriage is the triumph of imagination over intelligence.” (Oscar Wilde)

“The secret of a happy marriage remains a secret.” (Henry Youngman)

“All tragedies are finished by a death, all comedies by a marriage.” (Lord Byron)

“A wife is someone who’ll stand by you through all the trouble you wouldn’t have had if you’d stayed single.” (Unknown)

“By all means marry; if you get a good wife, you’ll be happy. If you get a bad one, you’ll become a philosopher.” (Socrates)

Wedding invitations for a second marriage can be a bit awkward and tricky. I think that couples getting married for the second time have an especially unique opportunity to laugh at themselves, if only they’ll allow themselves that pleasure. For example:

“Many a man owes his success to his first wife and his second wife to his success.” (Jim Backus)

“I’ve had bad luck with both my wives. The first one left me and the second one didn’t.” (Patrick Murray)

Check out latest n greatest for more fabulous quotes!

Do you have any grand ideas for humorous wedding invitation wording? Got a favorite quote? Leave us a comment, we’d love to hear it!
